2009 Great Circus Parade

Sunday, July 12, 2009 / 1:30 pm

The Great Circus Parade and Milwaukee Public Television announced that MPTV would produce a high definition live telecast of the 2009 Great Circus Parade. The Great Circus Parade last rolled down the streets of Milwaukee in 2003. This year's much anticipated return promises to be the largest and most extravagant historical re-creation in America, and will kick off from Milwaukee's Lakefront at 1:30 pm on Sunday, July 12th. The parade will be offered, via satellite, to all public television stations across the country and will be broadcast live in Milwaukee and by the stations of Wisconsin Public Television around the state.

MPTV has a long history with the parade, the last broadcast being in 2000, when the parade was the first live event ever transmitted in high definition by PBS. This year's glittering spectacle will again be broadcast live, in vibrant high definition.

The parade will be produced by Lois Maurer and directed by Raul Galvan. Participating on the on-air team, will be local comedian and story teller John McGivern and circus wagon historian Fred Pfening.

MPTV coverage of the parade has been made possible, in part, by a grant from the Great Circus Parade, Inc., the foundation for the Circus Parade and Frieda & William Hunt Memorial Trust.
