The circus is coming to town.

At Tuesday's Becker City Council meeting, Kim Schmidt of the Becker Chamber of Commerce and Jamie Cassidy of the Community Center approached council to ask for support to bring the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus (CM Circus) to town in July.

Schmidt and Cassidy pointed out that the city had a similar event back in 2002 in which the same vendor, CM Circus, came to town. The Chamber stands to be the organizer and financer of the event with the BCC working with them to provide the location and aiding in selling tickets.

The circus will be held Mon., July 27 with two shows - one at 5:30 p.m, and one at 7 p.m. - under a big top tent located in the back yard of the Community Center. Schmidt stressed the Chamber and the BCC will work together to see all expenses are paid with the profits split evenly. Estimated profit for each group is $500-$700, depending on ticket sales.
