Black-tailed Prairie Dogs
Populations of black-tailed prairie dogs exploded when predators such as foxes and coyotes were killed by settlers. Slaughter of prairie dogs by cattle ranchers contibuted to the decline of the endangered black-footed ferret, whose diet is 90 percent prairie dogs
